Environmental Affairs

Environmental Affairs ensures that district locations requiring repair or maintenance are free and clear of asbestos materials. Its responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing work area for asbestos and lead clearances
  • Working with city, state, and federal agencies to secure asbestos removal
  • Maintaining AHERA management plans for each facility for compliance with EPA regulations
  • Processing asbestos notifications
  • Triennial AHERA re-inspections
  • Six-month periodic surveillance
  • Managing all hazardous activities, underground storage tank programs, and investigating air and water quality concerns
The goal of the Environmental Affairs department is to insure the implementation of all rules and regulators regarding:
  • Asbestos containing material (ACM) in buildings
  • Indoor air quality
  • Underground storage tanks
  • Chemical disposal
