Environmental Affairs ensures that district locations requiring repair or maintenance are free and clear of asbestos materials. Its responsibilities include:- Reviewing work area for asbestos and lead clearances
- Working with city, state, and federal agencies to secure asbestos removal
- Maintaining AHERA management plans for each facility for compliance with EPA regulations
- Processing asbestos notifications
- Triennial AHERA re-inspections
- Six-month periodic surveillance
- Managing all hazardous activities, underground storage tank programs, and investigating air and water quality concerns
- Asbestos containing material (ACM) in buildings
- Indoor air quality
- Underground storage tanks
- Chemical disposal
